Lockheed Martin Awarded $31M Research Contract to Develop Cyber Information Assurance for Military Networks

Protocol Will Enhance User Authentication, Provide Information Assurance
GAITHERSBURG, Md., Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and security of military networks is the goal of a new contract that the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded to Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT - News). Under the workscope of this $31 million Military Network Protocol contract, Lockheed Martin's team will develop new cyber assurance procedures to improve security, dynamic bandwidth allocation, and policy-based prioritization levels at the individual and unit level.
"With systems from land, air and space connected to the Global Information Grid, cyber security is vital to every aspect of military operations, and new network threats and attacks require revolutionary protection concepts," said John Mengucci, President of Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Services-Defense. "Through this project, as well as our cyber Mission Maker initiatives, we are working to enhance cyber security and ensure the warfighter can fight on despite cyber attacks."
The increasing dependence on information technology has pushed cyber security to the forefront as one of the most urgent challenges facing the military. In developing this new protocol for military networks, Lockheed Martin's team will develop router technologies that include strong authentication and self configuration capabilities to improve security, reduce the need for trained network personnel and lower overall life cycle costs for network management.
Lockheed Martin is teamed with Anagran, Juniper Networks, LGS Innovations, and Microsoft to develop the new Military Network Protocol. Stanford University will also support the development effort.
