Congressman McCaul and BAE Systems Recognize Texas' Support of National Defense Through Combat Proven FMTV Program

BAE Systems ~ October 2, 2009,
SEALY, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX 10) and BAE Systems today recognized the people of Texas for 17 years of dedicated support to the nation’s defense through the successful production of the U.S. Army’s Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) program.
During a special FMTV Community Day celebration held at BAE Systems’ 200-acre production facility in Sealy, Texas, Rep. McCaul thanked BAE Systems’ employees who have built more than 56,000 FMTVs and trailers with associated protected cabs and are currently producing more than 40 vehicles a day to support military personnel operating in Iraq, Afghanistan and worldwide.
“BAE Systems has been a reliable partner for the United States Army in defending democracy,” said Rep. McCaul. “The men and women who build the FMTV here in Sealy have a direct connection to our men and women on the battlefield. Their commitment to quality helps ensure our military’s safety and success, which in turn is vital to our national security.”
The FMTV program is an important economic driver for the state of Texas. BAE Systems’ FMTV production employs 3,000 Texans and contributes more than $500 million to the state’s economy each year through employee salaries, contractor costs and vendor partnerships. With nearly two decades of experience, BAE Systems’ employees have made the FMTV one of the safest, most reliable medium tactical vehicles available for American servicemen and women.
“BAE Systems is proud to be in Sealy and partner with the people of Texas who share our commitment to America’s men and women in uniform,” said Dennis Morris, BAE Systems Global Tactical Systems President, who addressed a crowd of 700 employees during today’s event. “At BAE Systems in Sealy our motto is, ‘We Protect Those Who Protect Us,’ and today we want to acknowledge everyone in this Texas community who has helped us make that motto a reality.”
The BAE Systems-built FMTVs are used by military personnel to perform a variety of missions from cargo and troop carrier, to shop and cargo van carrier, to artillery and air defense missile weapons carrier. They have proven to be among the most reliable vehicles used in Iraq and Afghanistan today and their success prompted the Army to coin the term “ultra-reliable” to describe BAE Systems’ FMTVs. A derivative of FMTV called the Caiman Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle was also produced in Sealy. This program, in response to an urgent need deployed almost 3,000 vehicles to our troops.
