(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - June 4, 2015: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's image featured in top 10 criminals of the world in Google search engine on Wednesday. Though the internet giant issued a statement, apologising for 'any confusion or misunderstanding', but the image continued to appear in the search till late in the night.

"These results trouble us and are not reflective of the opinions of Google. Sometimes, the way images are described on the internet can yield surprising results to specific queries. We apologise for any confusion or misunderstanding this has caused. We're continually working to improve our algorithms to prevent unexpected results like this," a Google spokesperson said in a statement.

Google said that results to the query "top 10 criminals in india" was due to a British daily which had an image of Modi and erroneous metadata.

It said that in this case, the image search results were drawn from multiple news articles with images of Modi, covering the prime minister's statements with regard to politicians with criminal backgrounds, but added that the news articles do not link Modi to criminal activity, and the words just appeared in close proximity to each other.

PM Modi's image appeared along with those of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, slain al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, Hafiz Sayeed, and Ayman al-Zawahiri among others.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - April 1, 2012: Google led April Fools' jokes with its introduction of a new version of Google Maps which supports the ‘long neglected’ Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

And Tatsuo Nomura, a Google software engineer, is hopeful Nintendo fans will forgive the company for not catering to their retro tastes sooner.
He wrote in a Google Maps blog: 'In our pursuit of new digital frontiers, we realised that we may have left behind a large number of users who couldn't access Google Maps on their classic hardware. Surprisingly, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was unsupported, despite its tremendous popularity with over 60 million units sold worldwide.
'Our engineering team in Japan understood the importance of maps on retro game systems. With the power of Google’s immense data centers, and support from Nintendo and Square Enix, we were able to overcome the technical and design hurdles of developing 8-bit maps.

The new version is the first NES cartridge to be released in almost 18 years and boasts 'beautiful low-res graphics, simple and intuitive controls, and a timeless soundtrack.'
Like the original Google Maps, Google Maps 8-bit allows users to search for famous landmarks around the world, 'get detailed directions to avoid dangerous paths, and battle your way through a world of powerful monsters and mystic treasures.’
A Game Boy version is already in the pipeline.
Meanwhile, Google Play have released their very first Morse Keyboard for Android. The app scraps the traditional 26 key keyboard in favour of just two using just dots and dashes allowing users to 'type faster than ever with predictive mode and expert mode'.

And the old fashioned technology has been a hit with users. One commented: 'This app is amazing, writing long emails used to be a major hassle, how it just flies. This app is a game changer.'
Another added: 'A keyboard that addresses all of my anxiety regarding scrunched modern qwerty keyboards and one that does it in such an elegant way.'
Elsewhere, pictures supposedly showing Simon Cowell and David Walliams frolicking in a park emerged in the Sunday Mirror.

The Britain’s Got Talent judges enjoyed a picnic before taking a boat ride in a swan pedalo.
Italian photographer Aprile Sciocco, who spotted the pair, said: 'It was so good to see the chemistry between them works just as well off screen.
'They had a great heart-to-heart about women, cars, clothes and how they like their steaks cooked – it was a proper blokey afternoon out.'
The Sun also reported on a new Arsenal scent which captures the smell of the Emirates Stadium.
According to the newspaper, 'The £23 perfume includes a whiff of oils in the players' massage area, the fresh-cut pitch and leather from boss Arsene Wenger's dugout seat.

'Experts who blended the scent also included a hint of matchday food prepared in the posh Diamond Club by celebrity chef Raymond Blanc — and even a touch of striker Robin van Persie's hair products.'
And 20-year-old England pro Jack Wilshere is a fan of the new aroma.
'This brings me right back to the heart of Emirates Stadium whenever I want.
'It's perfect for any occasion — from a date with the missus to a night out with the lads,' he added.
Meanwhile, The Guardian has reported that David Cameron has asked Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder as a special advisor on social class.

According to the paper: 'Spin doctors believe that his credibility and authenticity could rub off on a government that has increasingly lost the common touch. He will advise on presentation of all coalition policies that affect the least well-off.
'He has already devised a T-shirt which makes light of "pastygate", adapting the George Osborne mantra "We're all in this together".'

DTN News - TECHNOLOGY NEWS: Sony Plans Two Android Tablets

Defense News: DTN News - TECHNOLOGY NEWS: Sony Plans Two Android Tablets
(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada / TOKYO, Japan - April 27, 2011:

Sony Corp. plans to introduce two tablets later this year running Google Inc.'s Android operating system, more than a year after Apple Inc. released the iPad and sparked the tablet-computer boom.

Sony is the latest competitor to offer products aimed at chipping away at the iPad's 80% share of the rapidly growing tablet market. Sony said Tuesday it aims to be the top seller of Android-based tablet computers by next year.

Sony Unveils New Tablets

Sony unveils one of its two soon-to-be-released tablets, the S1.

Sony's two tablets, code-named S1 and S2, will be released sometime after the fall. The S1 has a typical tablet shape and tapers down from one thicker side. It has a 9.4-inch touch-screen display. The S2 is a cylindrical, clamshell device that opens and closes, with two 5.5-inch touch-screen displays.

Sony said the tablets will come with wireless connectivity through Wi-Fi or high-speed mobile-phone services. The company didn't specify what mobile carriers it plans to work with and offered no details on sales targets. It also didn't disclose pricing except to say that the tablets would be "competitive."

Sony also offered a preview of two new Vaio personal computers running Microsoft Corp.'s Windows operating system. The company briefly showed a picture of a Vaio Freestyle Hybrid PC, which looks like a tablet with a slide-out keyboard. Sony also displayed a thin Ultra Mobile PC. The company didn't offer details about the products except to say both are expected out before year-end.

Sony plans to enter the tablet-computer market later this year with two models running Google's Android operating system, but how do the devices size up next to competitors like Apple's iPad? WSJ's Jake Schlesinger and Daisuke Wakabayashi discuss.

Sony aims to position its tablet computers as do-all entertainment devices tapping into its network of video, music, electronic books and videogames. Under Chief Executive Howard Stringer, Sony has pursued a strategy of linking online services to its wide range of electronic devices.

"We see this as a symbolic product to freely highlight what we can bring to the table," said Kunimasa Suzuki, deputy president of Sony's consumer-products and services group. "We need the tablet to be the hero of our network strategy."

Sony faces an uphill climb in the tablet-computer market. While demand is strong, the field also is crowded with nearly every electronics, PC, and smartphone maker unveiling tablets.

Sony's new tablets will run the Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system, which has been designed specifically to run on tablets. But the company's plans to debut the product after the autumn puts the product behind other non-Apple tablets running the same software.

Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc., with its Xoom device, introduced the world's first tablet running Honeycomb. Samsung Electronics Co., LG Electronics Inc. and others plan to beat Sony to the market with Honeycomb tablets.

Sony executive Kunimasa Suzuki displays the company's S1, which has a typical tablet shape and will be released after the fall.

Mr. Suzuki, who is in charge of Sony's mobile-devices strategy, said the company aims to win over customers with its unique design and technologies to speed Web browsing and response times. The S1 and S2 also will be able to send videos to Sony television sets and serve as remote controls for other Sony TV sets and other products.

Both devices will run Nvidia Inc.'s Tegra 2 processors.

"It's a wickedly difficult market and a lot of people are fighting for number two, but Sony has as good of a chance as anyone," said Jay Defibaugh, equities research director at MF Global FXA Securities in Tokyo. "They will need to differentiate in a sea of new models flooding the market and they seem aware of that."

The global tablet market is expected to nearly quadruple this year to about 70 million units, expanding to almost 300 million by 2015, according to research firm Gartner. While two in every three tablets sold this year will be iPads, Gartner said, Android-based models are expected to whittle away at Apple's dominance. By 2015, Gartner forecasts that Apple will control 47% of the market to Android's 39%.

DTN News - INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY NEWS: New book Reveals Google's Fallout With Apple And Exit From China

Defense News: DTN News - INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY NEWS: New book Reveals Google's Fallout With Apple And Exit From China
(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - April 10, 2011:
A new book released this week has lifted the lid on the secretive world of Google, revealing how the founders fell out with Apple's Steve Jobs and what happened in the search engine's exit from China.

'In the Plex' was written by Steven Levy, a technology reporter who says his latest work is "informed by a two-year deep dive into the company," reports the Daily Mail.

He reveals that when founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page were on the hunt for a chief executive they wanted Steve Jobs to take up the job.

The only problem was that Jobs had a much better job at Apple - a much more superior company at the time.

He turned their offer down but because he saw the potential of Google he agreed to mentor Page and Brin, even sharing advisers.

Problems came when Google bought and started work on the Android mobile phone system.

Apple saw it as a direct threat to iPhone and relationships broke down with Jobs feeling betrayed by the pair.

When he saw features like the 'pinch-and-zoom' control to look at websites and images during a visit to Mountain View, California, the home of

'Googleplex', he was apparently furious.

He believed the best ideas from the iPhone had been stolen.

The book also looks at the company's decision to pull out of China in 2009, nine years after the decision to make in-roads into the country.

Hackers, believed to be state-sponsored, broke into Google email accounts so Brin decided it was time to pull out of China.

It was in the country that 'the worst moment in Google's history' came about.n executive was sacked after they gave iPods to Chinese government officials - a customary business practice.
