(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - February 15, 2012:  After an initial evaluation document reached media, the Swiss Defence Minister Ueli Maurer called for a press conference

(http://www.vbs.admin.ch/internet/vbs/de/home/documentation/news/news_detail.43408.nsb.html)to comment on the rumors that Gripen would not meet the Swiss Air Force requirements. Today, the Swiss defence authorities reconfirmed Gripen as the optimal solution for Switzerland.
On 30 November 2011, the Swiss Federal Council selected the Gripen E/F as preferred candidate to replace their present F-5 aircraft. Saab and Sweden are now in negotiations with Switzerland, optimizing the complete package and preparing for the acquisition of Gripen E/F.

Saab is confident that the Gripen package gives Switzerland what it needs in all areas, particularly in terms of a fighter that delivers the best price-to-performance ratio with a long-term and agreed development path. Saab is committed to deliver a comprehensive Industrial Package that delivers long-term benefits to all of society. The acquisition of Gripen will further strengthen the partnership between Switzerland and Sweden.

Gripen, in operational service with five air forces, is an unquestionable capable fighter system that delivers its tasks. It is a new generation, multi-role fighter aircraft which uses state-of-the-art technology. It is capable of performing an extensive range of Air-to-Air, Air-to-Surface and reconnaissance missions employing the most modern range of weapons. Gripen has been part of NATO’s QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) organization since 2005. The operating air forces have participated with Gripen in several large, international exercises (including two Red Flag exercises in the US) with very good result.

With approximately 2,000 flight hours in combat missions over Libya and delivery of close to 40 per cent of the total need of Tactical Reconnaissance in the NATO operation Unified Protector, Gripen is a very capable fighter aircraft.

Saab has been an innovation powerhouse for advanced defence and security technology for 75 years, with system knowledge and system integration as core competencies. Today, Saab has operations in more than 30 countries, while our solutions, products and services are sold to more than a hundred countries. DTN News - SAAB DEFENSE NEWS: Saab's Civil Aircraft Missile Protection System (CAMPS) To FlyMex

Defense News: DTN News - SAAB DEFENSE NEWS: Saab's Civil Aircraft Missile Protection System (CAMPS) To FlyMex
(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - May 23, 2011: Saab has received an order for the Civil Aircraft Missile Protection System (CAMPS) from charter airline FlyMex based in Mexico and flying on behalf of the United Nations World Food Programme.

“With CAMPS we can offer a fully automatic high performance protection that counter the MANPADS threat towards transports for humanitarian relief aid, Heads of state and VIPs, still using civil aircrafts”, says Stefan Behre, Marketing and Sales Executive at Saab.

“Saab’s commitment is to deliver CAMPS and the necessary support for installation and certification, and provide training and countermeasure simulation results”, concludes Behre.

CAMPS is currently in operational service on two types of aircraft; Lockheed L-382 and Embraer 120. With this order CAMPS will be operated on a new type of aircraft; Dornier 328JET. This brings the number of aircraft where CAMPS has been certified to three and expands the market reach to three continents.

Flymex operates air taxi operations ranging of Helicopter, Amphibious and Jet Operations all over Mexico. Flymex is also participating in United Nations World Food Programme operations in several countries.

The World Food Program is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. WFP is part of the United Nations system with food assistance in more than 70 countries worldwide.

Safer Flight

The threat to aircraft from terrorists using Man Portable Air Defence Systems (MANPADS) is a reality in the world today. With the CAMPS system from Saab installed on the aircraft the flight will be safer.

Saab’s countermeasure systems are already installed on military aircraft all over the world and Saab is one of the leading providers of military airborne countermeasure systems. The CAMPS design has a heavy emphasis on safety and minimal operational costs, which led Saab to select pyrophoric technology and electromechanical dispensing.

Defense News: DTN News - BULGARIA DEFENSE NEWS: Bulgaria To Spend $1.5 billion On Military Equipment
(NSI News Source Info) SOFIA, Bulgaria - April 22, 2011:

Bulgaria plans to spend up to 2 billion levs ($1.5 billion) on buying and maintaining military equipment by 2020, Defence Minister Anyo Angelov said on Thursday.

Bulgaria -- a NATO and European Union member -- envisages buying fighter aircraft so it can secure its airspace within the alliance's integrated system for anti-missile defence.

The ministry, which has sent letters of interest to the U.S., France, Germany and Sweden about the purchase of eight new or used fighter aircraft, has already received an offer from Saab for its Gripen jets.

Next week, the Defence Ministry will meet representatives of European aerospace and defence group EADS and the U.S. government, Angelov said.

It also expects to receive a response from France's Dassault Aviation and Lockheed Martin Corp.

Angelov has previously said the tender for the fighter jet purchase will take place in 2012.

The Defence Ministry plans to allocate 1.5 percent of annual gross domestic product from its budget to fund the programme, which also envisages the modernisation of its MiG-29 fighters.
