"The AV8OR is a terrific addition to any helicopter, providing situational awareness of weather, terrain, traffic and airspace for very little cost," said Chad Cundiff, vice president, Crew Interface and Displays, Honeywell Aerospace. "For about $800, helicopter pilots get moving-map navigation with terrain awareness, which they can use on the ground or in the air, making every trip simple from door -- to air -- to door. The unit can also wirelessly interface to traffic and weather information."
The AV8OR is a portable touch-screen GPS for use in the car or in the air, with real-time weather capability, moving-map navigation and video-in capability. Its large 4.3-inch screen can display weather, from Honeywell's KDR 610 or the WxWorx portable receiver, and traffic from Zaon Flight Systems' XRX portable traffic receiver. The moving map display incorporates helicopter symbology, low altitude helicopter routes, helipads and controlled airspace.
The navigation database includes terrain shading and a SmartProfileâ„¢ view, enabling operators to see the terrain in the flight path of the helicopter.
For $99 a year, AV8OR is the first handheld to offer daily updates on fuel pricing through Flight Guide, as well as on-field services, restaurants, taxi services and hotels. A dedicated online customer center provides operators with simple software updating capability.
The AV8OR is the first touch-screen handheld device developed for both aviation and automotive use, the first airway planner, the first to have multimedia capability and the first to have a Bluetooth® phone interface -- all in one device.
AV8ORs are available from any authorized Bendix/King by Honeywell sales and service center worldwide.

Pall Teams with Carson Helicopters on Sikorsky S-61 Modernization Program

Pall's Centrisep EAPS Enhances Engine Performance
Defense News ~ PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.--February 21, 2010, (BUSINESS WIRE)--Pall Corporation a global leader in filtration, separation and purification, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Carson Helicopters, Inc. Pall will supply its Centrisep® engine advanced protection systems (EAPSs) to support a joint modernization program for the Sikorsky S-61 helicopter.
With approximately 620 aircraft in service today, the S-61 model is one of the most widely used commercial and military helicopters. The modernization program provides enhancements to this well-known aircraft that will enable it to perform effectively in severe operating environments and allow for many more years of service. Pall’s EAPS technology is a key contributor to these improvements, providing superior engine protection under conditions that include sand, dust, rain, snow and ice. Centrisep EAPSs protect helicopter engines from airborne contamination by utilizing centrifugal force to continuously remove particles before they can enter the engine air intake. The EAPS technology extends the life of a helicopter engine against erosion, while enhancing engine safety, reliability, availability and performance.
Under the terms of the agreement, Carson Helicopter will hold the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) on the Pall EAPS. Carson is a US Federal Aviation Agency (FAA)-approved helicopter repair station for the overhaul, repair and remanufacture of all major model helicopters. The Company holds over 20 STCs for improvements and modifications to the Sikorsky S-61 and was the first to develop performance enhancements such as composite main rotor blades and a shortened version of the aircraft for commercial and government use.
"As the recognized leader in aerospace filtration, separation, and purification systems and technologies, we are honored that our technology has been selected for this modernization program. Together with Carson we will deliver unique performance capabilities to an iconic aircraft," stated Jim Western, president, Pall Aerospace.

Pall and Turbomeca Launch Centrisep® EAPS Upgrade to Enhance Engine Protection for Squirrel Helicopters

Defense News ~ PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.--February 21, 2010, (BUSINESS WIRE)--Pall Corporation a global leader in filtration, separation and purification, and Turbomeca, the leading helicopter engine manufacturer, announce the availability of a certified upgrade of the Centrisep® engine advanced protection system (EAPS) for AS350 series helicopters. The upgrade has significantly higher dust separation efficiency than the original design. Desert trials have proven that it provides advanced engine protection for one of the world’s leading civil helicopters.
The AS350 Squirrel aircraft, produced by Eurocopter, the world’s number one manufacturer of civil and parapublic helicopters, is powered by a Turbomeca engine. The Centrisep EAPS upgrade fits the entire range of AS350s, including the EC130 and AS355, and is qualified by Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) EASA.R.S. 00753, June 2005. Over 250 sets of this latest system have already been shipped to 26 helicopter operators, including 11 in North America.
John Mandernach, vice president of maintenance, Maverick Helicopters, Las Vegas, commented, “We have installed 18 Centrisep EAPS upgrades and accumulated over 25,000 flying hours, and have experienced better performance than with the barrier filters we used previously. The Pall system is virtually maintenance-free. There are no extensive inspections or filter cleaning needed, no expensive by-pass door motors are required, and no differential pressure switches or filters elements to replace.”
Pall’s Centrisep EAPS protects helicopter engines from airborne contamination by utilizing centrifugal force to continuously remove particles, such as sand, dust and salt spray, before they can enter the engine air intake. The technology extends the life of a helicopter engine against erosion, while enhancing engine safety, reliability, availability and performance. The AS350 Centrisep EAPS is a “Fit and Forget,” environmentally sustainable solution. Unlike other systems, there is no need for regular maintenance and cleaning, and the unit is certified for inadvertent entry into icing conditions without the need for complicated by-pass doors.
“Pall’s Centrisep engine advanced protection system is the filtration standard for peak helicopter engine performance. The Centrisep EAPS upgrade for AS350 aircraft utilizes the latest advances in filtration design technology to maximize dust removal efficiency. It is an example of Pall’s ability to partner with OEMs to customize filtration solutions for their individual equipment needs,” said Jim Western, president, Pall Aerospace.
Retrofit kits are available for the 1,000-plus AS350s currently fitted with the previous Centrisep EAPS design.
Over 40,000 helicopters are in service worldwide, excluding piston-powered, single-engine craft. Industry forecasts project over $14 billion revenue in helicopter production in 2010.
Pall Aerospace provides fluid filtration and separation solutions for a broad range of military and commercial aircraft. Its filter products are used on all major rotorcraft brands worldwide. Centrisep EAPSs have been protecting helicopter engines since the 1960s. Over fifty different designs have been certified and operate worldwide.
