A live demonstration of the technology will be conducted by the Emergency Services Department of the Spanish Region of Murcia, and is planned for March 27, 2010 on the Mar Menor lagoon. The demonstration will be witnessed by hundreds of senior government officials and emergency services professionals from 25 countries across the European Union.
TruePosition was selected because of its unrivaled experience and expertise in mission-critical, location-based safety and security solutions.
“The Region of Murcia’s slogan is ‘The Safest Sea in the World to Start Your Nautical Sports.’ We are pleased to have this carrier-grade wireless location system from TruePosition covering our region, which can quickly locate 112 callers in their times of need – without them needing to speak Spanish. We believe that this new public safety solution will increase our attractiveness to tourists and further stimulate the region’s economy,” commented Francisco Rojo Ortiz, Head of Systems and Communication Services, Council of the Presidency and Public Administration for the General Administration of Emergencies for the Region of Murcia.
“This is an important milestone for the improvement of the 112 service. It marks the first time that high-accuracy wireless location information will be available to Public Safety Answering Points in Europe,” said Gary Machado, Executive Director for the European Emergency Number Association (EENA). “This need – to accurately locate 112 callers from mobile phones – is increasingly urgent across the European Union as mobile phones are ubiquitous in many EU countries. This deployment in the Murcia Region will certainly pave the way for further implementation of high-accuracy location technologies in the EU. Regulators at EU and national levels have the confirmation that many citizens could be saved each year thanks to available solutions that can be put at the disposal of first responders.”
“This deployment in the Region of Murcia reinforces the fact that the highly accurate and highly reliable TruePosition U-TDOA Location Platform makes the technology uniquely suited for mission-critical public safety applications,” added Stephen Stuut, Chief Executive Officer for TruePosition. “We are pleased that the capabilities of the TruePosition U-TDOA Location Platform have been recognized and selected by government officials in order to solve an ever-growing problem affecting countries around the world – locating people dialing emergency numbers from their mobile phone. We expect this to be the first of many implementations in Europe.”
The TruePosition Location Platform is a wireless location determination system, which can be tailored to meet the performance needs of the customer or application. For this public safety solution, the location technology being deployed is Uplink Time Difference of Arrival or U-TDOA. TruePosition U-TDOA is renowned for its ability to accurately and reliably locate any mobile phone in any environment – including indoors and in dense urban areas with tall buildings.
Today, the TruePosition U-TDOA Location Platform protects more than 100 million citizens and locates more than 60 million wireless emergency phone calls each year in the United States.
