National Defense Industrial Association Honors Morpho Detection's Deployment of MobileTrace® for U.S. Army

Handheld device helps Army identify explosives and narcotics with field-proven trace technology
Defense News: NEWARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Morpho Detection, Inc., part of the Safran group’s security business, today announced it has been awarded the National Defense Industrial Association’s (NDIA) 2009 Material Release Award for its delivery of the MobileTrace® handheld explosives and narcotics detection system to the U.S. Army.

Morpho Detection was recognized for its “outstanding contribution to the preparedness of the Armed Forces of the United States of America” for its timely delivery of the MobileTrace system. The first simultaneous dual-mode handheld detector, MobileTrace puts advanced technology explosives and narcotics detection in the hands of soldiers where they need it in the field. It also expands the range of target explosives identifiable from a single sample for faster, more comprehensive security screening.

“Morpho Detection is honored to receive this recognition for our work to support the U.S. Armed Forces,” said Dennis Cooke, president and CEO, Morpho Detection, Inc. “This award is a result of the coordination of two great teams – the U.S. Army and Morpho Detection – that came together to meet the critical technology needs of the armed forces.”

MobileTrace incorporates Morpho Detection’s patented ITMS™ (Ion Trap Mobility Spectrometer), or trace technology into a highly portable device. ITMS explosives and narcotics detection sensitivity and reliability has already been proven in other Morpho Detection trace-based products at military bases, border crossings, airports and other critical security checkpoints around the world. U.S. courts have considered the results of testing with trace technology in drug-related prosecutions.

As America’s leading defense industry association promoting national security, the NDIA provides a forum for the exchange of information between industry and government to foster the development of the most innovative and superior equipment, training and support system for American military personnel.
