Contract's Anticipated Value is $600 Million Over 10 Years
Defense News ~ MELBOURNE, Fla., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), has successfully completed the Preliminary Implementation Review for the U.S. Army's Modernization of Enterprise Terminals (MET) program -- next-generation military satellite communications terminals that will provide the worldwide backbone for high-priority military communications and missile defense systems. Completion of the review enables the project to move into the important design phase.
In partnership with the Project Manager, Defense Communications and Army Transmission Systems (PM DCATS or "Team DCATS"), Harris conducted an intensive review of all aspects of the preliminary design and life cycle support. DCATS is an organization under the Program Executive Office for Enterprise Information Systems, which is focused on enterprise-wide network solutions that help to ensure information dominance for the Army.
"This is an important milestone for the MET program, as it establishes a common understanding of the system architecture and ensures that all technical, program and supportability requirements have been properly allocated and accounted for," said Wes Covell, president of Harris Defense Programs. "Completion of the review successfully concludes the preliminary design phase of the MET program and enables Harris and Team DCATS to move forward jointly into the critical design phase."
As prime contractor for the Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract, Harris will develop, test and certify four unique terminal configurations during a 30-month, First Article Test phase. In addition, Harris will provide production hardware under the five-year base contract, with five additional option years, and will support field activities such as site preparation, installation, test, operations, and maintenance.
