Sectra: Swedish Defense Forces Streamline Peacekeeping Forces' Communications

On Monday June 22, 2009, 3:07 am EDT
STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Regulatory News: Sectra has been commissioned by FMV, the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration, to further develop the Tiger system used by the Swedish Defense Forces for encrypted telephony. The solution being developed in cooperation with FMV will enable peacekeeping forces to communicate in a secure manner directly between headquarters and troops in the field. The order value amounts to SEK 13 million.
Sweden’s defense policy relating to international peacekeeping forces places demands on flexibility and capability to transmit information between users of various types of communications equipment. Swedish-led forces, such as the Nordic Battlegroup, use Sectra’s Tiger XS for secure IP telephony in command positions and Sectra’s crypto product for secure tactical radio by troops in the field. The assignment that Sectra recently received from the Swedish Defense Forces pertains to the integration between these various crypto systems.
“It is important for us to simplify daily life for users of our crypto products. The solution that we are currently developing will provide personnel in the field and in command positions the opportunity for secure communications with each other and contribute to more efficient communications within peacekeeping forces,” says Michael Bertilsson, President of Sectra Communications.
Sectra Tiger for encrypted telephony Tiger XS is a personal voice encryptor that protects telephone calls from eavesdropping over telephone lines, GSM, ISDN and IP networks as well as via satellite systems. Tiger has been certified by the EU, NATO and several government authorities for national security purposes, making it the most secure product in the market for encrypted telephony.
