(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - August 20, 2015Defense contractors competing for a contract to build the U.S. military’s replacement to the iconic Humvee are eagerly awaiting a decision from the Army.

Humvee-maker AM General, truck-maker Oshkosh Corp. and defense contracting giant Lockheed Martin Corp. are vying to begin production of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, or JLTV.

An announcement on which company will be chosen to build the first 17,000 production models of the vehicle is expected either this week or next, sources told Military​.com.

Overall, the Army and the Marine Corps plan to buy a total of 54,720 JLTVs to replace about a third of the Humvee fleet at an estimated cost of more than $30 billion, or about $559,000 per vehicle, according to Pentagon budget documents.

That figure, which rose from earlier estimates, includes expenses for research and development, overhead and add-on equipment such as radios, weapons and armor. Officials have said the cost of manufacturing the vehicle alone will be about $250,000.

The companies submitted their final bids to the Army in February. Each of the firms previously delivered 22 prototypes for testing under an earlier contract.

Over the past decade, the Pentagon spent nearly $50 billion buying 25,000 or so of the bigger, mine-resistant ambush protected, or MRAP, vehicles as part of a rapid-acquisition effort spearheaded by then-Defense Secretary Robert Gates to better protect troops from roadside bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Thousands of the hulking vehicles were subsequently scrapped, mothballed or handed down to local police departments because the military never intended them to be a permanent part of the tactical wheeled vehicle fleet.

Now, the Army and Marine Corps are trying to incorporate some of the lessons learned from the wars into a lighter vehicle. “As we move forward, it will be a central piece of the Army,” former Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno said in June of the JLTV.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - May 31, 2015: Kamaz Typhoon is a family of Russian multi-functional, modular, armoured, mine resistant MRAP vehicles. The Typhoon family is part of Russia's Typhoon program launched in 2010. Both Kamaz and Gaz-Group are taking part in Typhoon program and develop their own family of vehicles. 

Kamaz already develop the KAMAZ-53949 Typhoon-K 4x4 modular armoured and Gaz the Ural Typhoon 6x6 multi-purpose armoured truck. Kamaz-63968 6x6 Typhoon-K (Taifun) has a mass of 21 tonnes and can carry up to 16 people in its personnel compartment.

Kamaz-63969 Typhoon is an advanced, special-purpose mine-resistant armoured wheeled vehicle designed and manufactured by KAMAZ, a truck maker based in Russia, for the Russian Army.

The new generation 6x6 armoured vehicle can be deployed in reconnaissance, surveillance, command and staff, engineer reconnaissance, medical evacuation, nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) reconnaissance and surveillance, fire support, special attack and armed escort missions.

The Typhoon MRAP can also be used to convoy other vehicles for combat missions and to transport soldiers, medical units and other equipment. It offers increased protection for troops in high threat environments.

The Kamaz Typhoon family of 6x6 armoured vehicles also consists of Kamaz-63968 (Typhoon-K) vehicle, which can accommodate two crew and up to 16 troops. The vehicle took part in the Interpolitex-2013 security exhibition in October 2013. A total of 14 Typhoon-K vehicles participated in Russian Victory Day military parade held in May 2014 in Moscow.

The Kamaz-63969 armoured vehicle has been developed under the Typhoon (Tayfun) MRAP programme, which is part of the Russian Federation Armed Forces' plan to produce military vehicles for the period up to 2020. The programme was initiated in January 2010. The Typhoon was originally demonstrated during an exhibition in Bronnizy, Russia in 2011.

The first prototype was completed and demonstrated to the Russian military department in June 2013. The Kamaz-63969 was also exhibited during the Russian Arms Expo (RAE) 2013 and the Kazakhstan Defence Expo (KADEX) 2014.

Kamaz-63969 Typhoon design and features
The Kamaz-63969 MRAP-type vehicle features monocoque hull made from new armoured steel. It incorporates on-board information systems, control units, sensors and a number of advanced defence solutions.

The armoured vehicle is 7.8m long, 2.52m wide and 2.75m high. It has a kerb weight of 19,703kg and a gross weight of 23,703kg.

The Typhoon can carry two crew and up to ten soldiers. Its cockpit is fitted with two monitors to display the information of the vehicle. The functional area is also fitted with a monitor.

Armament of Kamaz-63969
The Kamaz-63969 Typhoon is armed with a remotely controlled weapon system provided by Elektromashina JSC. The weapon station is mounted with PKT machine guns with the Russian 7.62?54mmR calibre rounds.

A rocket propelled 30mm AGS-30 automatic grenade launcher can also be mounted on the weapon station. It can store up to 30 rounds of ammunition and can fire belt-fed GPD-30, VOG-30 and VOG-17M 30mm grenade rounds at a rate of 400 rounds per minute. The 16.5kg grenade launcher is fitted with a day-night sight and has an effective firing range of 2,100m.

Protection features of Kamaz-63969 Typhoon
The versatile Kamaz-63969 Typhoon armoured vehicle is equipped with enhanced protection features. It is built using integrated ceramic armour for all-round protection against 14.5mm bullets, B-32 armour-piercing shells and high-explosive armour-piercing incendiary bullets.

The vehicle also features glass cover and bulletproof windows for protection against large-calibre firearms in the combat environment. The mine resistant seats provide enhanced protection to the crew and troops against land mines. The vehicle can also be protected from blast effects equivalent to 8kg of TNT.

Kamaz-63969 engine and mobility
The 6x6 Kamaz-63969 Typhoon vehicle is powered by KAMAZ 740/354-450, V8 diesel engine that generates a maximum output power of 330.9kW and a maximum torque of 190kgm. It is also equipped with independent, hydropneumatic suspension and automatic transmission system.

The vehicle is fitted with 10.00-20 wheels and 16.00 R20 bullet-resistant tires with blast-resistant inserts. It can attain a maximum speed of 105km/h on road and has a ground clearance of 0.47m and gradient of 60%. The maximum range of the Kamaz-63969 is 1,200km.

The Light Combat Vehicle, Redefined
The Oshkosh L-ATV is designed to keep Warfighters safe as battlefield threats evolve. The vehicle's crew protection system has been extensively tested and proven to optimize protection, weight and mobility. The L-ATV can accept multiple armor configurations so it can easily be adapted to changing operational requirements.

The L-ATV also uses the Oshkosh TAK-4i™ intelligent independent suspension system, building on the success of the TAK-4 family of suspensions used on more than 20,000 military vehicles. The TAK-4i system is tailored for high-performance, lightweight vehicles to give Warfighters unprecedented mobility in severe off-road terrain. It uses an advanced Oshkosh technology to deliver 20 inches of independent wheel travel; 25 percent more than any vehicle fielded with the U.S. military today.

Oshkosh's innovative L-ATV delivers expanded power capabilities, greater fuel efficiency and integrated diagnostics compared to legacy engine technologies. (NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - April 26, 2012: Oshkosh Corp., Oshkosh, Wis., was awarded a $16,090,170 firm-fixed-price contract.  The award will provide for the services in support of the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicle.  
Work will be performed in Afghanistan, Japan, Germany, and Oshkosh, Wis., with an estimated completion date of Dec. 31, 2012.  Five bids were solicited, with five bids received. 

 The U.S. Army Contracting Command, Warren, Mich., is the contracting activity (W56HZV-09-D-0111).

The Oshkosh® MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) is the high-mobility, high-protection medium tactical vehicle specifically engineered for treacherous environments. Rigorous Development
Oshkosh committed significant resources for light vehicle research and development to produce the L-ATV. In preparation for the JLTV EMD phase, six generations of Oshkosh light vehicles were developed to respond to evolving requirements. Oshkosh’s L-ATV designs have been verified through extensive JLTV mission-profile testing. Notably, an L-ATV prototype called the LCTV completed the 1,061-mile Baja 1000 off-road race in the unforgiving terrain of the Mexican desert, demonstrating its unprecedented performance capabilities and reliability.

            Scientific Research Corp., Atlanta, Ga., is being awarded an estimated $12,192,691 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, cost-plus-fixed-fee, performance-based contract to provide support to the National Science Foundation, U.S. Antarctic Program for air traffic operations in Antarctica through its Charleston-based Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) Office of Polar Programs.  Support includes core functional areas of air traffic control, meteorology, and the maintenance of support systems including, aviation ground electronics maintenance.  These services all support the safe and continuous scientific endeavors of the United States government in cooperation with many international partners.  This contract includes options, which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to an estimated $64,000,000.  Work will be performed in Charleston, S.C. AIR FORCE
            AAI Corp., Hunt Valley, Md., is being awarded a $162,400,000 firm-fixed-price (75 percent of contract value), fixed-price incentive firm (20 percent of contract value), and cost reimbursable (5 percent of contract value) for logistics support and concurrency modification support for the B-1 Training System.  The B-1B Training System consists of an Aircrew Training System component and Maintenance Training System, which support initial, continuation, and re-qualification training of B-1B aircrews and maintainers.  The locations of the performances are Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., and Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas.  Work is expected to be completed by Dec. 31, 2018.  ASC/WNSK, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is the contracting activity (FA8621-10-R-6254).

DEFENSE LOGISTICS AGENCY
            R.D. Buie Enterprises, Inc.*, Boerne, Texas (SPM8E6-10-D-0003/P00006); Middle Atlantic Wholesale Lumber, Inc.*, Baltimore, Md.             EADS North America, Irvine, Calif., is being awarded a $9,800,000 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed-price hardware contract for 203 spare/repair parts in support of the Radio Frequency Distribution and Control System (RFDACS) Program.  RFDACS provides a means of routing signals and information between the various antenna systems and other submarine communication subsystems.  Work will performed in Irvine, Calif., and is expected to complete by December 2014.  The contract was competitively procured via Navy Electronic Commerce Online, with one offer received.   The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport, R.I., is the contracting activity (N66604-12-D-0051).
