Aruba Networks, Inc. ~ On 12:10 am EST, Monday December 14, 2009
SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - 12/14/09) - Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARUN - News), a global leader in 802.11n wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, today announced that it has been awarded three awards as part of the eighth annual Mobile Star Awards(TM) program. The program promotes the top mobile products and deployments across a broad range of categories including applications, enterprise software, and wireless network products. Superstar awards, the highest honor, were conferred upon Aruba's AirWave Wireless Management Suite (AWMS) and Virtual Branch Networking (VBN) solutions. Aruba's RAP-2 Remote Access Point received a Shining Star award.
AWMS is the only network management software to deliver full visibility and control over multi-vendor wireless networks. A single, easy-to-use console provides a window into all aspects of network operation, simplifying the work of network engineers, Help Desk staff, IT managers, and security analysts. The suite includes four primary components:
-- AirWave Management Platform (AMP)
-- VisualRF(TM) Location and Mapping Module
-- RAPIDS(TM) Rogue Detection Module
-- AirWave Master Console & Failover Servers
AirWave OnDemand, a cloud-based enterprise-class network management service, is the newest extension of the AWMS product line. Using sophisticated tools previously available only to large organizations with large budgets, AirWave OnDemand allows even the smallest organization to efficiently manage, monitor, and control its network.
The VBN solution dramatically simplifies the complexity and cost of deploying a remote solution at branches with one to many users. Complex configuration, management, software updates authentication, intrusion detection, and remote site connectivity tasks are handled by powerful data center-based Aruba controllers. Centralizing these services in the controllers enables the branch office equipment to be greatly simplified and cost reduced. The virtualized functions are transport-independent, so any wide-area network -- including inexpensive cable, DSL, and 3G cellular -- can be used to connect branches offices.
The RAP-2, a component of VBN, securely connects remote users with enterprise network services and applications. Featuring authenticated wired and Wi-Fi access, and with a list price of just $99, the RAP-2 is a very economical solution for branch offices and fixed teleworkers.

The University of Rhode Island Gains Speed With Aruba 802.11n Wi-Fi

Legacy Fat AP Network Was Throttling IT Productivity and Network Performance
Aruba Networks, Inc. ~ September 15, 2009,
SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - 09/15/09) - Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARUN - News), a global leader in wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, today announced that The University of Rhode Island (URI) is deploying an adaptive 802.11n Wi-Fi network throughout its 1,200 acre Kingston campus. Chartered in 1888 as the state's agricultural school, the university serves more than 14,500 undergraduate and 4,500 graduate students. The new high-speed network replaces an aging Cisco Fat AP deployment that required manual intervention by IT to resolve RF issues, was difficult to troubleshoot, and had limited intrusion detection and access control features. After evaluating single, multi-channel, and controller-less wireless LANs, Aruba was selected because its Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) technology delivered stellar RF performance, while its policy enforcement firewall and integrated wireless intrusion detection delivered highly granular control over access and security.
"Aruba was the only vendor to offer the triple-play we needed: adaptive RF management, integrated wireless intrusion detection, and a built-in firewall for role-based access control," said David S. Porter, the University of Rhode Island's Director of Media and Technology Services. "We have deployed the first 800 of what we expect to be a total of 1,500 802.11n access points, and ARM basically manages them for us by automatically addressing interference, 802.11b/g client conflicts, and other RF issues. That feature alone offered tremendous relief to our IT staff, who were freed to work on other projects."
ARM uses infrastructure-based controls to optimize the performance of Wi-Fi clients in real-time. Acting on their own, Wi-Fi clients do not always work cooperatively with other clients, or select the optimal band, channel, and access point. These issues are exacerbated in settings with densely packed users such as university classrooms, lecture halls and libraries. ARM uses a variety of techniques to control how Wi-Fi clients interact, thereby ensuring that data, voice, and video applications have sufficient network resources, including airtime, to operate properly.
"On the matter of security, we used to restrict access to the network using a very large access control list that was unwieldy to manage across independent access points," continued Porter. "Aruba provided a central management interface, with a single access control list, that is automatically pushed to every controller and access point. As with ARM, this feature significantly lowered IT staff workload. And it gave us much finer grained control over user access because we can now control by user, group, service, application, bandwidth consumption, among other parameters."
Identity-based security, Quality of Service control, and traffic management capabilities are provided by Aruba's policy-enforcement firewall network. The firewall classifies on the basis of user identity, device type, location, and time of day, and provides differentiated access for different classes of users. For example, voice traffic can be assigned a high priority and reserved bandwidth to ensure reliable delivery, while university guests might have limited available bandwidth and tight controls with respect to the sites and servers that can be accessed.

Aruba's Enterprise Wireless LAN Market Share Soars in New Dell'Oro Report

Revenue, Unit Shipments, and 802.11n Gains Are Significant and Further Tighten Aruba's Grip as Second Overall in Market Share
SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - 09/02/09) - Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARUN - News), a global leader in wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, today announced that its total enterprise unit shipments grew more than 35% from 1 Q 2009 to 2 Q 2009, according to market research firm Dell'Oro Group's just-released "Second Quarter 2009 Wireless LAN Report." Aruba's revenue market share for dependent enterprise access point and controller sales, both direct and OEM, rose from 12.8% in the first quarter to more than 16% in the second quarter. Over the same period, Aruba's 802.11n revenue market share rose from 17.2% to nearly 21%. These results solidify Aruba's second place market share standing, and further distance it from lower ranked competitors.
"Customers focus on value in a down economy, and Aruba is the value leader in this market," said Keerti Melkote, Aruba's co-founder and CTO. "Our growth comes in part from customers who are tired of overpaying for needless wired infrastructure and are drawn to Aruba's network rightsizing message. Our financial strength and focus on standards and interoperability is also helping us take share from struggling niche players. The net result is that our market share is rising, and we're adding new customers at a record rate -- over 600 for Aruba's last fiscal quarter alone."
The Dell'Oro report notes that the 802.11n enterprise dependent access point market grew roughly 53% from 1 Q 2009 to 2 Q 2009. "The transition from 802.11abg to 802.11n is clearly gaining speed, driven by customers' desire to use wireless wherever possible, Ethernet only where necessary," continued Melkote. "That migration plays to our technical strengths because Aruba's 802.11n solutions deliver wire-like performance and lower life-cycle costs."
Aruba's standards-based, adaptive 802.11n wireless LANs optimize Wi-Fi performance in real-time by virtue of its centralized architecture and Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) technology. ARM uses infrastructure-based controls to manage how Wi-Fi clients interact, ensuring that data, voice, and video applications have sufficient network resources to operate properly. An Aruba technical brief, "802.11n Client Throughput Performance," describing client field test results can be downloaded from Aruba's Web site. A white paper, titled "ARM Yourself to Increase Enterprise WLAN Data Capacity," is available outlining the technical features of ARM.
The new Dell'Oro report, titled "Second Quarter 2009 Wireless LAN Report," is available for purchase from Dell'Oro at www.delloro.com.

NCC Sweden Networks 200 Remote Sites and 32 Major Offices Using Solutions From Aruba Networks

Major Scandinavian Construction Group Cuts Cost of Temporary and Fixed Networking by up to 90%
SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - 08/31/09) - Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARUN - News), a global leader in wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, today announced that NCC Construction Sweden has deployed Aruba's Remote Access Point (RAP) solution at more than 200 remote sites and 32 major offices across Sweden. NCC is one of the leading construction and property development companies in the Nordic region. Within the NCC group, NCC Construction Sweden is responsible for projects spread across the length and breadth of one of Europe's largest countries, and its IT department provides data services throughout the service area from its headquarters in Solna, near Stockholm. The simple provisioning, high security, and centralized management of Aruba's remote networking solutions made it the vendor of choice for the project.
RAP software can be loaded into any standard Aruba access point and offers a truly instant-on, no set-up connectivity solution with the security of a VPN but no client software to manage. "Managing the operation of hundreds of remote, temporary offices was previously an expensive challenge, but Aruba's RAP solution has addressed that issue," said Anders Eklind, Datacom Manager at NCC Sweden. "The Remote Access Point has cut the cost of our remote office deployments by 90% compared to our traditional remote site solution. It has similarly reduced support costs. Despite the scope of the region and remote sites we cover, our IT team needs to spend just 5 hours a week deploying, operating, and supporting the 200 plus remote sites currently using Remote Access Points."
In addition to its remote sites in Finland, Russia, Poland and Estonia, NCC Sweden uses Aruba wireless LANs at its 32 major offices across Sweden. The new Malm office adhered to Aruba's network rightsizing model of deploying wireless everywhere possible, wired LANs only where needed. By running less cable and buying fewer LAN switch ports, NCC Sweden was able to slash the IT installation costs by 50%, netting a savings of $30,000 for a network of 200 users.
"We did not originally set out to deliver a wireless network with 100% coverage at our offices," continued Eklind. "However we ultimately did so because the Adaptive Radio Management built into the Aruba operating system enabled the wireless network to automatically take account of local conditions. The result was excellent wireless performance without a dense deployment of access points."
Network rightsizing is a three step process that matches infrastructure with user needs. The first step entails assessing the actual or projected utilization of closet switches and ports. In a typical facility it is not unusual for 40% of wired ports to be underutilized or not used at all. The second step involves consolidating required ports into fewer switches to lower deployment and maintenance costs, and reduce electricity and HVAC usage. The third and final step involves deploying 802.11n Wi-Fi with Adaptive Radio Management to enhance the mobility and productivity of users who don't need a wired link. Aruba has developed a calculator to show the estimated monetary and CO2 emissions savings resulting from rightsizing.
"NCC Sweden's experience demonstrates that both capital expenditures and operating expenses can be significantly reduced through network rightsizing," said Andreas Ferm, Sales Manager for Aruba Nordics. "Breaking with the tradition of using wired networks not only saved money for NCC Sweden, but also improved employee efficiency and enhanced network security. Especially in these economic times, it makes sense to look for cost savings with fresh eyes, and Aruba's network rightsizing and RAP initiatives have much to offer in this regard."
Additional information about network rightsizing can be found on-line at http://www.arubanetworks.com/solutions/network_rightsizing.php.
